FEFCO is the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers, whose original name was "Fédération Européenne des Fabricants de Carton Ondule". Today the association is called "European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers".

According to FEFCO 0427, hinged-lid cartons are, as already mentioned, a special form of folding carton that usually consists of only one piece (or one blank). In this case, all four side walls are firmly connected to the bottom and separated from it by a creasing line (for angling the walls) in each case.

Set up the cardboard folding boxes by first folding the four small corner flaps at 90° and then the front and back creasing adjacent to the bottom, also at 90°. Then the side flaps on the left and right can be folded over them.

The packaging is fixed by also folding the large bottom flap over it from the front. Now the hinged box can be filled and then closed with the large lid flap.

Here, the lid represents an extension of the rear wall and is folded forward from the rear when closed. A special feature of the design is the closure: the tabs of the outermost lid section are inserted into two slots on the longitudinal front of the box - and thus serve as a reclosable locking device.

Adhesive tape is not needed to assemble or seal the boxes. For shipping the boxes with hinged lid, however, it is still recommended in most cases to use parcel tape or stickers to protect the contents of the cardboard box from unauthorized access.
